WON IN LAST QUARTER.

East Perth's Good Effort.

East Perth defeated Swan District in a card-fought and at times thrni-ng game at Bassendean yesterday. The fortunes of the teams fluctuated, and Swan Dis

tricts had a three-point lead at threequarter time. In the final term East Perth finished strongly, and won by 18 points. E. Budd was field umpire. . Districts could neither settle down nor pick out men accurately in pairing- At quarter time East Perth led with 4.6 to 1.0. In the second term Swan Districts made a determined bid to reduce the leeway but two more goals were scored by East Perth before the home team could increase its goal tally. It was Chandler who broke the succession of behinds and the side kept up a persistent attack. East Perth could not check the advance and Taylor's goal placed Swan Districts on level terms and at half-time Swan Districts's score was 8.9 to 7.7. On the resumption Menhennett forwarded and Screaigh goaled. From an easy shot Taylor registered only a behind but a running shot gave Sweetapple a goal. Randall twice repulsed East Perth, which attacked persistently. McAllan marked and goaled. Murray and Hunt took play around the wing, and Holdsworth scored a goal for Swan Districts, for which Murray was doing good work. A long punt by Cronin, East Perth's skipper, yielded a point At three-quarter time the Swan Districts score was 10.10 to East Perth's 9.13.

With a goal on the run Brown put East Perth three points in the lead. Screaigh and Menhennett and then MuggrnaT1) Parry and Broom were prominent in unsuccessful forward drives' by East Perth before Parry goaled. A move begun by Parry gave Mussman six points. East Perth was dominating the play, but Chandler scored a goal when Swans broke through. Mussman made «n«nis for scoring only a point from a poor kick by registering a goal. Crow repeatedly turned Swan Districts attacks. With lees than three minutes to play Gorm goaled from a mark, but McAllan, marking from Menhennett, goaled for East Perth. The final scores were: —

Swan Districts: Chandler (4), Gorn (3), Sweetapple (2), Forbes, Holdsworth, and Taylor. For East Perth Parry, roved consistently and continually disposed of the ban to good advantage. The marking of the bigger men, including Menhennett, Starr, 3room and McAllan, was ' a' feature! Screaigh, Mussman and .Ouhl did valuable work, and Crow- was always useful. Chandler was probably the- best man for Swan Districts and three of his goals
