BEATRICE GRIMSHAW.

Miss Grimshaw has collected another set of her short stories, and has published them under the title of "The Candles of Katara" (Hurst and

Blackett). They are characteristic stories of the South Seas, of New Guinea, and of the men and women who have drifted there from the four corners of the earth, and they are uniformly good. Indeed, "The Candles of Katara" might be quoted as one of Miss Grimshaw's best books. Perhaps the story which gives its name to the collection is one of the most dramatic, but there is a touch of O. Henry about "The Black Dog of Bareina," while "The Wreck of The Lady Rose" is largely comedy.
