MR. ROY FREDERICK, FAGAN.

BRILLIANT UNIVERSITY CAREER.

Having completed a brilliant scholastic career at the Tasmanian University, Mr. Roy Frederick Fagan was admitted to the Bar in the Supreme Court at Hobart yesterday by Mr. Justice Crisp. Mr. Fagan is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Fagan, of Wynyard, and for the last three years has been president of the Tasmanian

Who has been admitted to the Bar.

University Union. He was warmly con-gratulated on his academic achievements by His Honor. The application on his behalf was made by Mr. E. M. Johnson (Gatenby, Johnson and Walker).

Mr. Johnson said that Mr. Fagan was educated at St. Virgil's College, and after leaving school joined the staff of the Commonwealth Bank. In 1929 he resigned from the bank, and in the fol-lowing year commenced his course of study at the University of Tasmania for the degree of Bachelor of Laws. In 1931 he became articled to -his firm (Gatenby, Johnson nnd Walker)'. He was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Laws In May of this year, having gained one high distinction, nine distinctions, and four passes. He tied with another student for the Common Law prize, con-veyancing prize, and the James Back-house Walker prize for the most pro-ficient course. He completed his law examinations by passing the final examination by the Tasmanian Law Society in June last.

Mr. Johnson said the applicant had taken a keen interest in the general activities of University life, and had been president of the Tasmanian Uni-versity Union for the last three years. He had been leader of the Tasmanian University debating team that won the inter-'Varsity debates held at Hobart last year. He had taken a keen interest in the establishment of Christ College within the University, and had been a resident of the College since its incep-tion, being president of the Students'

Club.

His Honor, in granting tile applica-tion, sold that Mr. Fagan had enjoyed a most impressive University record, and had also taken a leading part in the life of the University. He wished him a long and happy career in his profession.
