FREIGHTER ASHORE

SYDNEY, Monday.

On her maiden voyage from Yokohama to Sydney, the Japanese freighter, China Maru; 5,870 tons, went ashore on Seal Island, about 130 miles from Rabaul. The freighter according to a message, was leaking, but her engines were intact.

The Sydney agents have been informed that No. 1 fore peak tank is in danger of taking in water. Efforts

to refloat the vessel have so far failed.

As there is no list, the captain believes that the vessel may be re-floated. There are no ships in the area but the agents are considering sending a ship from Rabaul to-morrow to act as a tug.
