Total Loss of the Schooner Helen.—Captain Wallace, of the schooner Eliezer, which arrived from Chatham Island yesterday, reports the total loss of the schooner Helen on Pitt's Island, and all hands lost with the exception of two of the, seamen. The Captain had his wife, and daughter on board at the time of the wreck. The Helen was the property of Messrs. Gilles Brothers of this city, and sailed from this port on the 1st April, for Wellington and Auckland, N.Z., under the command of Captain Hugh Clarke, so long and well-known in the New Zealand trade as master of the Sisters, brig Julia, and the schooner Munford, with a cargo composed principally of timber. The Helen was 186 tons register, and at the time of the disaster was cruising amongst the islands trading for potatoes and grain for the Melbourne market. The vessel, we understand, and what specie and cargo she had on board, were fully insured. By this sad catastrophe three young children, at present in Hobart Town, are left to mourn the lost of both parents.

¦Burning of the Caledonia.?Tbd French schooner "Caledonia, which arrived here on the 20th current from Melbourne, was discovered to be on fire near midnight of Sunday last. Assistance was immediately given by tbe French and English men-of-war in the harbour, but the fire could not be checked, and after burning for some, hours the vessel sank at her anchors, about six o'clock on Monday morning. The vessel contained a cargo of sundries, of the valueorabout£3000,nopartof.whichbadbecnlaiided. Tbe wreck, we hear, has been bought bysomo natives for $1300, but as the'vessel was burnt to the water's edge before she sank, we don't think they will make much by their bargain.?Singapore Free Prose, June 23rd.

Lou of,Her Majettjf* Steamer Transit.?T3m Nether. lands Majesta .steamer Montrado, from Minto, arrived yesterday afternoon, 13th July, having on board Lieut. Downes, R.N., of ber Majesty's steamer Transit, andreports the total loss of the latter vessel. The Transit was lost in

the Straits of Banca on Friday last at .nine o.m., by strik-ing upon a rock four miles from shore, and the vessel almost immediately afterwards went down in seventeen fathoms x»wter. .The troops and crew were saved and landed on the

island of Banca. Lieut. Downes was dispatched to Minto for aaiisUtoee ;¦ tho Dutch resident Ibero at once most courteously sent on'the'steamer Montrado to'Singapore for (he purpose of chartering vessels to bring the troops to thia port. We have no other details-at present. It will be remembered that tbe Transit was one of the mott unfortu-nate transport vessels in-the service. " On her tatt voyage asst sat-upon'her anchor, and all lint foundered on starting from Kngland, then put into Corunna, and at length has foundiflnal bed for herself in die Strait* of Banca?Strait* ¦ Tim*.
