FOSSILS

Valuable Collection

PRESENTED TO DEPART-

MENT OF INTERIOR

A valuable collection of fossills has been presented to the Commonwealth Palaeontological Collection in Can-berra, by Mr. F. A. Cudmore, Honor-rary Palaeontologist to the National Museum, Melbourne.

Announcing the gift yesterday, the Minister for the interior (Mr. T. Paterson) said that the collection in-cluded tertiary fossils from Victoria South Australia and Tasmania, com- prising over 1800 named specimens all of which were collected by Mr. Cudmore and were originally in his own private collection, as well as a

miscellaneous collection of Palaeozoic

Mesozoic and tertiary fossils, partly determined, from England and Aus- tralia.

The collection was regarded by de- partmental experts as unique and as

a most desirable addition to the

Commonwealth collection.

Mr. Paterson expressed deep ap- preciation of Mr. Cudmore's public

spirited and generous action in mak-ing the presentation.
