TASMANIAN SPORTING

COLOURS.

STORY OF THEIR ORIGIN.

Mr F A Brooke writes -I have had several enquiries lately as to the origin and correct colours for Tasmanian sport-ing bodies. The idea was first pro-mulgated at a meeting of the Belleive branch of the ANA and a meeting was called bv Mr T S Nettlefold chairman of that branch and hon sec-retary of the Tasmanian Rowing As-

sociation. This was held in 1910, 13 being present, viz.: Soccer (W M Soundy), rifle (A V Giblin), golf (V

J Elliston), rowing (T S Nettlefold), Tennis (C Allanby), Australian foot-ball (late W H Gill) cricket (P Facy), lacrosse (T Hunton), racing (T A Tabart, jun ), yachting (late J T Powell), bowls (J R Johnston)

baseball (Geo Brewster) and amateur Athletic Association governing ath-letics, cycling swimming, and boxing (F A Brooke)

The colours decided on were rose

(red), primrose (yellow) and myrtle| (green). The basic colour was myrtle (green) The map of Tasmina was in primrose and each part had its own particular emblem in rose. In the A.A.A. a barred gate represented athletics a winged foot

cycling, a handshake boxing, a diver

swimming emblem. Whilst anyone may wear the colours only those who have represented the State are permitted to wear the map.

Attempts were made to register this with the Commonwealth-not Arbitra-

tion Court - but were dropped and it was finally decided that the wearing of the map could surely be left to a man's honour. Might I suggest the Tassie should fly a Tassy flag at her mast

head?
