FERRY AT FAULT

NEWCASTLE DISASTER Marine Court Finding

"NEWCASTLE, Friday. |

"Apart from the question of lights, It appears to me that nothing can be held against the Waraneen" declared Judge Nield, at the conclusion of the evidence at the inquiry into the har-bour disaster on the night of August 9, when the ferry steamer Bluebell

sank after a collision.

His Honour said that the only pos-sible cause against the Waraneen was the question of lights. There was no obligation on the part of the War-aneen, other than to keep her course and speed, and there was no evidence

that she did not do that.

The Court found that the collision was due solely to the negligent navi-gation of the ferry Bluebell, and the failure to keep out of the way of the steamer Waraneen, and ordered the master of the Bluebell, Thomas Evans, to show cause why his certi ficate should not be dealt with.
