WINTRY WARMTH

In the Antarctic

LITTLE AMERICA (Antarctica),

Sunday

Unseasonable warm conditions for 12 days now with but a single exception the temperature has been above zero. On Saturday the reading was

16 degrees.

Mr. Haines, the senior meteorologist, says that vast streams of warm air are pouring through the upper atmosphere from the oceans to the northwards. He did not know whether to consider the warm spell abnormal, as this was only the third winter in which the polar conditions had been

studied in the Antarctic.
