THE CHIMNEY STACK IN THE BUSH. This chimney stack, which is about 50ft. high, was built in 1872 at the Mount Clara mine, and is composed of stones obtained near by and held together by a mortar made of lime and sand. At that time nearly 300 men were working at or near the mine. Now the site is occupied by tall saplings. —H. Crawford photo.
