Terang finds

burst of

winning form

STRICT training methods of coach Dick

Wearmouth "paid off" when Terang defeated Camperdown, in the first round of Hampden League matches on Saturday.

Terang supporters are

still talking about their ' team's performance, be-cause its form over the last few seasons has been disappointing.

Last year Terang won only one game, whereas Camper-down has not been out, of the Hampden League four for some years.

Stamina has always been Terang's downfall, but coach Dick Wearmouth, from Foot-scray, soon eliminated that

weakness.

Wearmouth gave a mag-nificent first-match display, and some mighty duels are expected in the centre when he meets his former Foot-scray colleague, George "Binger" McLaren, coach of Colac, last year's premiers.

Warrnambool, with 10 new men, surprised with its smooth combination against Mortlake.

It won by nine goals, and its supporters are a lot happier than they were earlier this season.

Former Carlton forward Bernie Baxter made a great start for Port Fairy by kicking seven out of the team's nine goals against

Colac.

However, Colac's all-round strength gave it a winning break.

Cobden in form

For an opening match Cobden's form against South Warrnambool could hardly

be faulted.

It played confident, clever football throughout, and coach Tommy New (former Brighton centreman) had a good reason to be satisfied with the effort.

South Warrnambool now has two first-class rovers and pocket forwards. They are new coach, Nick Bloom, from St. Kilda, and Ron Hoy, back from Norwood (S.A.).

Battle between the Hamp-den League and the Grounds Management Association is still going on.

The grounds association committee is demanding 20% gate money, and the league so far refuses to in-crease its offer of a rise from 12¿% to 15%.

The league is asking for a full-scale conference on the

matter.

Mr. F. W. Reid, league sec-retary, has pointed out that only two country leagues in the State-Bendigo and Wes-tern district-pay 15%. Most others pay 10%.
