Joan's going into movies...
... with this man
An Australian feature film without cattle, dust, desert treks, and exag-gerated local characters,
is to be made in Mel-
bourne.
Titled "Night Club," it will be a modern story of a Melbourne man who starts a cabaret in spite of strong opposition from his farming father.
A scheming, "gold-digging" actress tries to upset the enterprise.
"Pioneer"
Director and script-writer of this first full length picture to be made in Melbourne since the 'thirties is Dick Harwood, who made the first Aus-tralian talkies in 1931.
His most recent film was "Show Business," started in Melbourne in 1938, and completed in Sydney.
Producing company for "Night Club" is Cam-bridge Films, of Box
Hill.
Leading lady, in the part of the actress, is Melbourne "blues" singer Joan Bilceaux (above), who was runner-up to Leah McCartney in the recent Miss Victoria quest.
Young man who starts the cabaret will be radio actor Frank Holbrook.
Well-known Melbourne singer Colin Crane, of "Show Boat" fame (right), will be the father, with Joff Ellem,
comedian from the Plaza Theatre, Northcote, as a vaudeville producer.
"Shooting"
A number of Melbourne vaudeville acts will be included in this semi-musical film. "Shoot-ing" will start next Sat-urday night at the Park Orchards cabaret, near Ringwood.
This sequence will be shot during the cabaret, with the patrons serving as "extras" and back-ground for the action.—
F. KEITH MANZIE.
