EARNED THEIR VISIT

From TOM MOON

I Adelaide, Sunday

Melbourne horses had their share of the lime-light at the S.A.J.C. autumn carnival, which finished at Morphettville

yesterday. '? Although they drew a blank at the opening of the carnival-Goodwood Handi-cap day-they were well compensated by winning three of the eight races on the final day.

Last Wednesday Melbourne stayer Peerless Fox won the main race of the meeting-the Ade-laide Jubilee Cup-and Golden Pippin the W. B. Carr Handicap.

Yesterday Beau Cavalier won the Sires' Produce Stakes, Royal Academy the Sir Willoughby Norrie Stakes, and Golden Pippin repeated Wednesday's success in the Jockey Club Handicap.

In the Jockey Club Handicap all three placegetters were from Victoria. Golden Pippin defeated Bernarlow, with Tartan Crest third.

Rode winners

Melbourne jockey Norman Powell and former Victorian Ossie Phillips rode winners.

Royal Academy was compensa-ted for his narrow defeat in the Jubilee Cup by winning the Sir Willoughby Norrie Handicapmain race on the final day.

Royal Academy gave Phillips the hardest ride of his career.

He was backed from 3/1 to 2/1 and comfortably defeated Meadow King with the outsider Last Salute third.

"He is the laziest horse I have ever ridden," said Phillips after dismounting.

Royal Academy is raced in partnership by Mrs. Jim Southorn and leading Melbourne trainer Theo Lewis. He is trained at Mentone by B. Price to allow him to get plenty of swimming for his doubtful forelegs.
