WOMEN WILL BE WEARING

MELBOURNE - SUMMER

# Clothes that are sensible, soft and feminine

By MARIE VRANISAN

SKIRTS will be narrower, short

coats shorter, buttons will be everywhere on frocks, hats will sweep to the right, shoes will be the low-cut

court with covered-in toe and heel.

Swim suits will be strapless.

Pedal pushers will be tremendously popular on the beaches.

Fashionable colours will be tan, caramel, navy, and black.

Navy will be worn with pink, soft gold and burnt straw tonings.

Sheer black frocks will be just right for summer days.

Many of the patterned cottons will feature black in their designs.

Strapless swim suits are good news ' " foi the young girls.

- How often have they after a holi-

day or week-end sunbathing found ' their beautiful tan marred by two narrow white strips . . . where the bathing straps ran.

Their new strapless evening gown has often had to give way to a less glamorous model just because of the tell-tale swim-suit straps.

Those days have gone now.

The girl with the not-too slim or not too-shapely legs will find she has been specially catered for this sum-mer with pedal pushers.

These are ideal for her.

Most young girls will also want one of the smart heavy linen jackets being displayed at a city emporium.

They are in attractive shades and can be allied to many different skirts.

The only similarity between Mel' bourne and New York fashions is

that the young Australian girl may

wear her blouse outside her shorts or

pedal pushers at the beach. And that is only for coolness.
