The late Mr Squire Reid.

OBITUARY.

MR. S. H. REID.

Mr Squire Horace Reid, presi-dent of the VFA, and former Labour MLA, died early yester-day at his home in Arawatta st, Carnegie. He had been ill for a long time.

A son of the late Captain John Reid, of Greenock, Scotland, Mr Reid was born at Port Mel-bourne, Victoria, in 1887, and educated at Annandale, NSW, and Albert Park State schools.

He was MLA for Oakleigh from 1927-1932, and from 1937-1947, when he was defeated by Mr J. S. Lechte (Lib-CP).

From 1938-1943 Mr Reid was temporary Chairman of Com-mittees in the Assembly, and became Chairman of Commit-tees from 1943-1947.

For 25 years he was a mem-ber of the staff of the States Cigar Factory, and later be-came a cigar manufacturer.

He was a keen cricket and football enthusiast, and had been connected with the VFA for 20 years.

Mr Reid was married, and had two sons.

Officials of the VFA will meet at their rooms at 9.45am on Monday to attend the funeral, which will leave Mr Reid's home for the Springvale Crematorium at 10.45am.
