CARLTON MAN DECLARED

NORTH PLAYER

Bill Redmond, Carlton back man, who has appeared in every match this season, was declared a North Melbourne player by the VFL permit committee last night.

1 Redmond's ' clearance to Carl-ton was granted in June, 1946, and North Melbourne delegates caused a stir last night when they unexpectedly challenged its validity. They claimed that as a resident of West Bruns-wick, which is North Melbourne territory, it was necessary for Redmond to have a North Mel-bourne clearance before joining any other club. | The delegates stressed that neither Redmond nor Carlton were to blame. There was some doubt about the details of his transfer, and it was not known

upon what grounds it had been approved.

Mr W. Brew, chairman, said it was obvious that Redmond was residentially bound to North Melbourne. Before he could play with Carlton again he must obtain a clearance from North Melbourne.
