SIR ISAAC ISAACS DIES AT 92

Sir Isaac Isaacs, who was Australia's first native-born Governor-General, died yesterday at the age of 92.

He died at his home in Marne st, South Yarra, having been ill for several weeks. He passed peacefully in his sleep at 3 a.m.

Sir Isaac Isaacs is survived by his wife, Lady Isaacs, and by two daughters, Mrs David L. Cohen, of Sydney, and Mrs Sefton Cullen, of Bowral (NSW).

He will be given a State funeral, but arrangements had not been com-pleted last night. At the funeral the Federal Government will probably be represented by Dr Evatt, Attorney

General.

Last night it was thought probable that the High Court, which is hearing the Banks case, would adjourn on Friday to enable members of the Bench and Bar to attend the funeral, for Sir Isaac Isaacs was Chief Justice of the High Court when he was appointed Governor-General.

A service will be held in the

Synagogue, Toorak rd, tomorrow, at

[SIR ISAAC ISAACS]

3pm, and the funeral will leave for the Melbourne General Cemetery about 3.30pm.

Funeral arrangements are in the hands of W. G. Apps and Sons.
