Chief Signals Officer

Major-General Colin H. Simpson, Signals Officer in Chief, Army HQ, will retire on Monday after 6½ years' service. He is one of the last among senior general officers of the CMF to be discharged from the army.

A pharmaceutical chemist in civil-ian life, he enlisted in October, 1939,

with 12 other senior officers, includ ing General Sir Thomas Blamey, Lieut-Generals Sir Edmund Her-ring, Sir Leslie Mors-head, S. G. Savige, S. P. Rowell, and Major-Gene- rals C. E. M. Lloyd, the late G. A. Vasey, and Clive

Steele.

Major-General Simpson served in almost every campaign before his appointment to GHQ as Chief Sig-nals Officer in April, 1942, and to LHQ the following month. In No-vember, 1944, he was sent on a special mission to England, France, Belgium, and Holland, returning to Australia by way of the United States and Canada.
