PASSING OF THE PIONEERS.

Another old resident of Queensland—. Mrs. Jane M'Farlane— passed away it her residence, St. Colomb's. on Friday, 5th Instant, at the ripe age of 86 years.

The deceased lady was the relict of the < late Mr. Andrew M'Farlane, builder, who, * for many years resided at Gregory-terrace. With her husband and small family she landed in Victoria from the ship, General Hewitt, about 88 years ago. After a residence for ? short period in that State Mr. and Mrs. M'Farlane resided for about two years in Bydne>, and came to Brisbane shout two years— prior to separation. Mrs. M'Farlane waa the motaer of the first child born in Queensland after its proclamation as an independent colony. The son was bt>rn on December 10, 1850. shortly after the . Btate was declared by the Governor. Sir George F. Bo wen, and in honour of the occasion was named "Bowen." The child only lived a year and a few days. With , the exception of a Bbort trip to Tweed Heads the deceased lady never left the State. Mrs. M'Farlane was highly respected. The funeral service at tbe Topwong cemetery was conducted by the Rev. A. Maxwell, rector of St. Nicolas' Church, SandgAte. Mr. Alick M'Kenzie Shaw, aged 50 years, died early this moment telegraphed on the 10th iust). The 4c-CPiute'l wag the youngest son of the late Mr. John M'Kenxir Shaw, of Brisbane, end a brother of Mr J. M. Shaw, of the Valley of Laroons station, Ingh&m, Mrs. Audley Winship, Beaudesert. and tbe late Mrs. A. A. MafiDiarmid, who predeceased him at Crow's Nest two years ago. Messrs. D. H.. and A. M. MacDiannld, of Crow's Nest, are his neohews. Boms days a«o deceased was prostrated with a paralytic stroke, but made favourable progress till a collapee came about at 4 o'clock this morning. The funeral took plare this afte-noon. The Rev. J. M. T^a'e, of St. Ooree's An*rlicitn Church, conducted the service at the rraveslde. /The drc*«?ed, who was widely known, 'was of a reserved bnt kindly nature, and was held in er*<?t esteem.
