TO RETIRE.

FROM BIG FOOTBALL.

RIGBY TO PLAY IN CLUB GAMES.

Edgar Rigby, the popular Queensland Soccer captain, has retired from inter-State and international football.

In making this announcement yesterday Rigby stated that he had had a long career in representative football, and it

was his desire that some of the many promising young-sters in the code should get an op-portunity to prove their merit. It is not his intention, however, to retire from football. He will again don the jersey this season for Latrobe, with whom he has been connected since 1916, and of which

he has been captain

since 1922. The club has achieved many notable suc-cesses, and it was

under the leadership of Rigby in 1923 that the team won the B senior premier-ship, thus gaining entry to the A senior

ranks.

In his first season in senior football Rigby gained his inter-State cap, and was a member of the 1924 team which toured New South Wales. This side gained the distinction of conquering the then un-defeated Granville team. Fresh honours fell upon Rigby in 1925, for he was chosen to lead the State side against the English-

men.

In 1929 Rigby was captain of the Queensland team which visited New South Wales, and he again led the State side in 1930 and 1932. He has thus been a mem-ber of every Queensland team against New South Wales since 1924. In club football it is recognised that Latrobe owe much of their success to his great skill as a leader, and it is only owing to the earnest appeal of several of the players that he has again consented to lead the Padding-ton combination during the coming sea-son. In the last three years Latrobe have carried everything before them, and they are confident that under Rigby's leader-ship they will again have a most success-

ful season.
