LINES

Suggested by the Sudden Death of the

Rev. Richard Hill.

" In the midst of life we are in death, to whom shall we flee for succour but unto thee oh Lord!"

Though in the midst of life's gay dream,

Our hearts with pleasure bound ;

And every scene may brighter seem,

To gild the varying round :

II.

Still in the path stands grisly death,

To hurry us away ;

To still the pulse ; to stop the breath;

And mark his powerful sway.

III.

Then where shall man for succour flee,

But to the Lord! alone!

Oh! teach us to approach to thee,

And worship near thy throne.

IV. Let not our sluggish souls delay,

To take thy proffered grace;

Teach us to walk up wisdom's way,

And reach that heavenly place,

V.

Where free from sorrow, sin, and shame,

And cleans'd by Jesus' blood; We join to celebrate the Lamb,

And praise our gracious God !
