NATIONAL RESEARCH.

Annual Meeting of Council

SYDNEY, August 16.

The annual meeting of the Austra- lian National Research Council was held" to-day. Sir George Alfred Julius was unanimously elected president for

the current year.

Dr. Henry G. Chapman, in submit-ting the financial statement, which was adopted, stated that the assets of the Research council were now £18,800.

Professor Osborn presented the re-port of the executive committee, which stated that the Rockefeller Founda-tion had contributed generous support to anthropological research work in Australia and the islands.

A resolution was unanimously adopt-ed thanking the Rockefeller Foundation for this generous support.

The council decided to award a bronze medal, to be known as the Thomas Ranken Lyle Medal, to the living author of such researches in mathematics and physics as may appear to the council to be deserving

of such honours.

It was agreed also to establish lec- tureships in honour of Proiessor Sir Edgeworth David and Sir David Orme Masson, first and second presidents

of the council.

The following were elected members of the executive committee for the ensuing year:-Vice-presidents, Sir Wil-liam Mitchell, Dr. A. C. D. Rivett, Professors N. T. M. Wilsmore and H. C Richards; honorary secretary, Mr. Alex. J. Gibson; committee, Sir Doug-las Mawson, Dr. B. T. Dickson (Federal Capital territory),Professors E. J. God-dard (Queensland), W. E. Agar, T. G. B. Osborn, E. W. Skeats, and R. D. Watt, Dr. G. A. Waterhouse, Messrs E. C. Andrews, H. W. Gepp, and W. E. Wainrlght.
