GENTLEMEN,

THE sudden and lamentable Death,

of Mr. GILCHRIST renders it my duty to offer myself as his Successor in the Tuition of your Children. Were I to neglect this opportunity of doing so, I should manifest'a criminal indifference to my own Interest;-a cold-hearted insensibility to the affectionate attach-ment of the young Gentlemen whom I have had the pleasure to Instruct during the last Nine Months;-and great ingiatitnde to their Parents.

I am not, on this occasion, in the least influenced by a spirit of livalry towards other Gentlemen, who are occupied in similar Duties, nor am T so presump-tuous as to lay claim to superior Quali-fications as a Teacher. The tact or skill in Education which I may possess, has been perhaps estimated too highly, but I 'pledge myself, that such as it is, it shall be assidtousjy and conscientiously employed to promote the solid and rapid Improvement of the Pupils who may be entrusted to my care. - '

I bave the honor to be,

Gentlemen,

Your most obedient Servant, i

S. G. WILKS.
