ST. JOHN'S WOOD.

CHOICE BRISBANE SUBURB.

Some years ago a visitor to Brisbane possessed of more than ordinary vision, purchased a large area of well-watered undulating park-like land in the vicinity of Ashgrove. It had been the estate of the late Mr. Justice Harding, but the land cognisante of those days regarded St. John's Wood (as his Honour's pleas-aunce was named) as being too remote for practical purposes. These opinions proved incorrect, as St. John's Wood is now ap-proached by train and tram, and many choice residences have made their appear-ance along the beautiful meanderings of Enoggera Creek, and are perched on the breezy tree-clad hills. The proprietor of the estate is now prepared to increase the bounds of settlement on St. John's Wood, and elsewhere in this issue of the '"Courier" is an announcement that St. John's Wood Extension and Royal Park, on Waterworks Road, Ashgrove, may be inspected by home seekers, and will be on the market in a few days. The admirers of St. John's Wood are numerous and distinguished, and rank from H. M. the King downwards, his Majesty having resided at the mansion (still standing) when he visited Queensland as Prince of Wales 27 years ago. On Sunday after- noon, during the next few weeks, free afternoon tea will be provided for visitors at St. John's Hall, Royal Park, and the short distance from the city, a mere fivemile spin, will no doubt prove an attrac-tion to many in search of a healthful and altogether delightful experience, especially if they have some intention at the back of their heads to become residents of a suburb unsurpassed for charm of natural beauty, which is its undoubted heritage.
