SANDGATE CARNIVAL.

Sandgate's Cancer Campaign will conclude on Saturday next, with a carnival on the Deagon Racecourse, and a "Coronation Ceremony" in the Sandgate Town Hall. No effort has been spared to provide a fine enter-tainment. A procession, under the gen-eralship of Mr. C. H. Giles, will line up in Pier-avenue, Shorncliffe, at 2 p.m., and substantial prizes are offered for winners in eight different classes. The judging will take place on the race track on the carnival grounds. The Sandgate Town Band, conducted by Mr. J. Drew, will head the procession, fol-lowed by "King Pooh" and his "Queens of Carnival," and the three competitors for the "Queen Crowning" who will have for a bodyguard a de-tachment of Light Horse, fully equipped for parade. The procession will pro-ceed by way of Eagle-terrace, Sandgate Central, and Board-street, to the car-nival grounds, where the opening cere-mony will be performed by Alderman W. P. Schulz. Entries for the proces-sion can be made up to the time of starting. An attractive programme of sporting events for trophies will be presented, including the 100 yards all-comers' race (first prize, a hand-some silver cup), tug-of-war, and novel-ty events. Entries for most of the sports events can be made on the grounds, and the programme is so ar-ranged that three events will be held concurrently. The "Queen" commit-tees will offer cool drinks, ices, and other forms of refreshment at reason-able prices, and gaily decked stalls will be laden with sweets, produce, and gen-eral effects. Ample space will be pro-vided for the parking of cars. The final part of the extensive programme will be held in the Sandgate Town Hall, commencing at 8 p.m. with musical numbers, followed by the "Coronation"

at 9 p.m., and the presentation of the trophies won at the sports. These ceremonies will be performed by the Home Secretary (Mr. J. Stopford). Dancing will commence at 10 p.m., and continue until midnight.
