MISS RUBY ROBERTS

WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL CHAMPION

After an absence of 11 years abroad, Miss Ruby Roberts niece of the late Charles Memmott formerly professional billiards champion of Aus- tralia, recently returned to Australia. Speaking of her travels yesterday, Miss Roberts, who holds the world's women's professional cham- pionship, said that she and her mother went to England in 1914, arriving just after the war broke out. She had made contracts to play matches, but with the declaration of war many of these were cancelled. She was able to ar-

range a number of matches, however, both in England and in Scotland, and she gave a good deal of private tuition.

During her absence from Australia Miss Roberts visited the Continent of Europe and also South Africa. She did very little playing, however on the Continent, for English billiards is hardly known there
