PROTECTING COUNTRY CLUBS.

BENDIGO, Thursday. Chapple, a leading forward of the Eaglehawk Club, has renewed his application for a clearance and a permit from the Bendigo League to play with Footscray, In his application Chapple states that he in now permanently employed, and is living in Melbourne

with his family.

When Chapple's application was before the special tribunal of the League, the chairman (Mr. J!. Smalley), in refusing the application, said that country clubs were entitled to retain the services of the best players, they had produced, and it was the duty of the League to protect the clubs tugs met the wealthy metropolitan clubs; who encouraged the best players in the country to migrate to Melbourne.
