HEAVY LOSSES AT GUNDAGAI.

Water Stretches for Miles.

GUNDAGAI, Thursday. —The greatest flood at Gundagai for 34 years is causing immense damage. The flood water rose

17ft. in 24 hours, and the river is 36ft. above its summer level. A number of people had to be rescued in boats. Nearly all the soldier settlers' maize crops have been ruined. all low-lying houses are inundated, and great damage has been done in the town. Haystacks and dead stock are now floating down the stream. The flood water stretches for miles; the water is running over the wall at Burrinjuck, and the village of Jugiong is inundated.

The flood receded six inches this after-noon. Stacks of hay, dead sheep, and fur-niture are still floating down the stream.

At the freezer works there is £2,000 worth of rabbits under water. Another case of drowning has been reported, the victim being Mr. Walter Kerr, employed

at Tenandra Station.
