VICTORIA'S FIRST GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

On view in the showcase at the Public Library reading room is an interesting collection of drawings of the first Government House of Victoria, from which this reproduction has been made. Mr Charles Joseph La Trobe purchased in Europe this quaint Swiss chalet, and erected it on the Jolimont estate so named by his Swiss wife. Here he resided until 1854. Until recently the remains of the old chalet were still standing at the rear of the factory of Milood and Co. Pty. Ltd, in Agnes street.
