VICTORIAN RELICS.

LA TROBE'S PERIOD.

Drawings of Government House.

Interesting relics of the early days of the State, including 12 pencil sketches of Government House, Jolimont, and its grounds, as they were when the building was occupied by La Trobe, a map of Victoria dated 1872, and an address presented to the Duke of Edinburgh on his visit to Melbourne in January, 1868, have been received by the Premier (Mr. Prendergast) from the office of the Agent-General (Mr. G. Fairbairn) in London. Mr. Prendergast intends to hand the souvenirs to the trustees of the National Gallery.

The souvenirs were presented to the State by Mrs. Shea-Simonds and Captain Charles La Trobe, grandchildren of La Trobe, who are living in London. They were originally obtained from Miss Eleanora S. La Trobe, a daughter of the first Governor. The sketches were drawn by Edward Bateman,

his cousin.

The address presented to the Duke of Edinburgh contains the names of a large number of early colonists among whom are those of John Pascoe Fawkner, and Edward and Francis Henty.
