TAX RESISTED.

IRRITATED STOKERS.

A STEAMER HELD UP.

PARIS, April 9.

The objection of five stokers to pay in-come tax has prevented the La France, the, largest French Transatlantic liner, leaving Havre. When the men refused payment the Revenue authorities garni-sheed their wages to the extent of 34 francs apiece. The stokers referred the matter to their trade union, and as the whole engine-room staff made common cause with the stokers the passengers were disembarked and sent to Paris.
