ROCKHAMPTON.

August 6.

Two nuggets of gold, weighing severally 13 ounces and 4½ ounces, arrived on Saturday from Peak Downs.

Six hundred men were discharged from the

works on the Northern Bailway last week. The majority of them found employment at the Crocodile Creek Diggings, the population there varying from eight hundred to one thousand men. Mackay, it is stated, intends to unite with Bowen and Bockhampton as regards the separation movement.August August 8. The magisterial enquiry as to the origin of the late fire at the Squatters' Home Hotel was concluded to-day. The evidence went to show that the fire was premeditated, but that the incendiary was a person unknown. The building was insured in the Pacific Office for £1500, and in the Liverpool and London for £1000. The manager of the Pacific Company declines to pay, on the ground that no notice was given of a second insurance. August 10. Beports ot a very satisfactory nature have been received from the Crocodile Creek Gold Fields. The population, which is daily increasing, now amounts to fully one thousand. There have not been very large finds, but nearly all the diggers are getting gold. Six public houses and several stores are now in course of ereotion.
