BURNIE GIFT.

Won by E. R. Terry.

BURNIE, Thursday.—The Burnie athletic sports were continued to-day. The principal pedestrian event, the Burnie Gift, of 130 yards, was won by E. R. Terry, 11 yards (Tas.); A. M. Stuart, 11½ yards (Tas.) being second; and M. Campbell, 11 yards (Tas.) third. Terry won by half a yard, a yard separating second and third.

The time was 13sec.

The results of the chief cycling events were:— New Year Handicap (one mile).—J. Beath (N.S.W.), 90 yards, 1; F. T. Keefe (Vic.), 85 yards, 2; R. Bishop (Tas.), 65 yards, 3. Won by a length, a length and a half between second and third. Time, 2.7 2.5sec.

Lightning Handicap (half a mile).—L. T. Gar-diner (Tas.), 60 yards, 1; L. R. Bishop (Tas.), 45 yards, 2; W. J. Hope (N.S.W.), 3. Won by half a length. Time, 53sec.—a record for the event.
