AUSTRALIAN FO0TBALL,

---------------------

PROPOSED WORLD TOUR.

VISIT TO PANAMA EXPOSITION.

MELBOURNE, July 22.

The Minister for Public Works (Mr. Hagelthorn) was waited on today by a deputation from the Australian Football

Company with a request for co-operation in arranging for a tour of Australian footballers around the world. It was ex-plained that the company had been form-ed by a number of football enthusiasts for the purpose of collecting two teams, ag-gregating 45 men, who would demonstrate the Australian game to the people of America, Great Britain, France, and South Africa. They did not wish a Government grant towards the expenses of the tour, but ap-proached Mr. Hagelthorn as the Victorian Commissioner for the Panama Exposition. As the men would serve as an admirable advertisement for Australia. it was thought that a small subsidy might be given towards the expenses while the team were in San Francisco. In reply, Mr. Hagelthorn said the movement had his hearty sympathy. He could not make a direct vote for any form of sport, but he would bring the question before the Australian Panama Commission with a view to obtaining for the footballers some assistance out of the vote for advertising Australia at the exposition.
