MARYBOROUGH, June 25.

Mr. R. B. Ridler, of Yarrol station, one of the original pioneers of the district, is dead. The sculling contest for a cup presented by Mr. John Hurley took place on Saturday, and

resulted as follows:—M.Walters, 1; Sim, 2; Male, 3. The race was a splendid one, and was won by three lengths. Barton led for threefourths of the distance and then collapsed. ROCKHAMPTON. June 25. A man named James Taylor fell off the plat-form of the train between Comet and Rock-hampton. He was brought on to Blackwater by the next train, and from thence conveyed to town, when his left arm was found to be broken and his shoulder dislocated. ROCKHAMPTON, June 26. A carrier named Caspar Schrer, while driving a horse team across the railway line at Comet on the 5th instant, was jammed against a post by his horses swerving. The injured man lingered in great agony until this morning, when mortification set in, and death ensued. Deceased was a native of Wurtemberg. Captain Smith, of the barque Elizabeth, from Adelaide, reports haying encountered a violent gale on the coast, during which Joseph Bearbice, the second mate, was washed off the poop by a heavy sea and dashed against the mainmast. When picked up he was quite dead, his neck being broken. ROCKHAMPTON. June 27. Mr. James Chesney, of Calliungai station, has been thrown from his horse against a tree, sustaining a compound fracture of the right

leg. George Denny, while employed on Gordon Downs station fencing, had both bones of his right leg broken by a tree falling upon him. Both the injured men were admitted into the hospital on Monday night, and the broken bones set. NEBO, June 27. Rich specimens were got yesterday by Reckitt and Mills in the Edith Mary prospecting claim, Mount Britton. TOWNSVILLE, June 23. Forty-three lots in a private township on the Lower Burdekin were sold by auction yester-day, and realised an average price of £80 per acre. CHARTERS TOWERS, June 23. The Queen, No. 3 north-east, has cleaned up for 2160z., and the Esperanza claim for 440z. CHARTERS TOWERS. June 28. The case against Thomas Edwards, charged with manslaughter in connection with the recent fatal accident in the Day Dawn mine was dismissed to-day, after having occupied several days. HERBERTON (via Port Douglas), June 26. It is reported here that a lode of diamond tin has been found at Return Creek. A post office is to- be erected at Scrubby Creek, ten miles from here, on the Port Douglas road. Rich ore has been struck in the Royal Saxon mine at Emu Creek: also, in the Birthday claim, close to the Wild Irishman. Several new finds have been made at Return and Emu creeks. COOKTOWN,June 29. The R.M.S. Roma brings the following pas-sengers : — For Townsville — Mr. and Mrs. Neames; for Brisbane—Mrs. Plunkett, Mrs. Macrossan, Mrs. Virgil Power, Miss Power and nurse, and Percy Power. The passenger list is, however, incomplete, and the above are the only names to hand. KINGSBOROUGH. June 29. The Lizzie Redmond claim, the property of the Tyrconnel Company, has cleared up 200 tons of stone for a yield of 3430z. retorted gold.
