The Rev. J. B. Needham, who has re-cently been appointed rector of the Angli-can Church in the Rosewood parish, was publicly welcomed to the town by a large ?athering in the Farmers' Hall last night our Rosewood correspondent advised yes-terday). at such a large gathering to assist in wel-coming their new rector. Revs. Castleman, Mason, and Bill also extended a welcome to Mr. Needham «on their own behalf and on behalf of the churches which they represented. ¡Messrs. Haines and Mark also welcomed Rev. Mr. Needham, and as-sured him of the co-operation of his Sarishioners in all matters. The Rev. Mr.

cedhara suitably responded. The late - rector, Rev. Al E. Attldns, also spoke.

During the evening Mr. Needham played an overturn, songs were rendered by ¡Miss Mark, Messrs. Steele (two), and Black-more, and recitations by Miss Mark and Mr. -F. J. W. Eiehstadt.

The West End Gospel Mission work-ers, who have been conducting, weekly open air services at Belmont for the benefit of the men employed on the ¡Belmont Tramway construction works for tho past three months, tendered them a social evening in the Shire Hall on Tuesday, a fair num-ber of the' men accepting the invitation. The chair was taken by Mr. S. Crowther, and a pleasant evening tiras spent. Solos, duets, and trios were rendered «by the members of the mission, a recitation was given by the chairman, another by one of the men, and a. short address was given by the Rev. James Parker. Light re-freshments were «handed round.

Willinga, late pastor of the Bowen (HIlk> and Windsbr Churches, was "farewelled" by his Bowen Halls congrega-tion, and presonted with a ¡purse contain-ing six sovereigns. Word has now come to hand that Mr. Wallinga and fam-ily are settled in their new charge at Manly, New South Wales, tho induction service having recently been conducted by the chairman of the «Now South Wales Congregational Union (Rev. A. II. Austin, B-A.), and the official "welcome" wa« held on a subsequent week night. Among the speakers at the latter function were the lîev. J. «Henwood Tonis (secretary of tibe New South Wales Union) and tho Rev. Jacob «Williams, both one time Queensland ministers, and «both old friends of the newly inducted minister.

The Rev. T, U. Symons (organising sec-retary for the Baptist As&oeiation of Queensland) has been, visiting the Kilkivan district and conducted successful services in the.School of Arts, AVondai. On Mon-day night Mr. Symons ¡had an enthus-iastic meeting with Wie svmpathiscrs of the Baptist movement in Wondai, and as a result it is expected stops will be taken to establish a Baptist Church for

the locality.

The Sunday school anniversaries in con-nection «with the Hemmant and Tingalpa Methodist Churches have been recently celebrated. The Sunday services were conducted by the Rev. W. Dinning and Mr. Amos. On Tucsdny evening the dis-tribution of pris-es took place at Hem-mant, and on Wednesday evening at Tin-galpa. -The iRov. W. ¡Dinning presided over large gatherings, and Mrs. Dinning assisted in tho distribution of a large num. «her of books.

J. ¡Lundie) presided over a sbss'ioii of assembled delegates of Greenmount, Allora, and Clifton, held in the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, to further inquire into the petition lodged by the members of the Presbyterian con-gregation in Clifton to be made a sep.. arate charge (writes our Clifton corre-

The monthly meeting of the executive of the Joyful News ¡Mission was ¡held on Thursday ' evening. The superintendent (.Rev. W. II. W. Lavera) presided, and there were also present: Tho bon. s«»crc

of the Sunday Behool. The report of the executive was to the 'effect that the mission was in a satisfactory posi-tion, both spiritually and financially. Reference was made to the brotherly feel-ing existing between ministers of other denominations and the superintendent, and the readiness of the former to render .assistance. It «was added that the pub-lic generally recognised the good work done by Mr. Lavers ingall directions, and had every confidence "in him.

Ensign John M'Lean, who is an old Bris-bane boy, has boen appointed sub-manager of the People's Palace, under Major Wil-son. The oiisign and (Mrs. M'Lean and child arrived in Brisbane during the week, and are the guests of Major and Mrs. Wilson, West End.

Brigadier Winter and the provincial ßccretary (Major Simmons) are bo visit Forest Hill this evening, and on Sunday will conduct three services in the Army Hall at Laidley, returning to headquarters

on Monday.

The suburb af Virginia has now a church in tho loonlitv. » rnrilflirur to «not fin people having been opened by the Rev. Dr. ¿torrington on the afternoon ot Juno 4. The church is in connection with Scots' Church, Clayfield, of which the Rev. Scott Macdonald, M.A., is minister, and is the Third branch church in connection with that congregation. The committee, con-sisting of Messrs. Best, Dymock (chair-man), Patterson, and Varney, is to be con-gratulated on their ivorik. The gathering at the dedication service was an overflow-ing one, and the'opening social gathering on the Monday evening following, pro-moted by the Women's Guild, was also large and enthusiastic.
