Death of Mr. J. F. Buckland.

The death has occurred of Mr. John Francis Buckland, a very old resident of Brisbane, having arrived in Brisbane in 1862. He was born in 1832 at Runnymede, in a farmhouse formerly used as a hunt-ing lodge by King John, and situated im-mediately opposite the spot where Magna Charta was signed. He was for many years in business in Queen-street as an auc-tioneer, at one period in partnership with the late Mr. Simon Fraser, M.L.A. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly as member for Bulimba on July 18, 1882, the seat having became vacant by the resigna-tion of Mr. Swanwick, and he was again returned at the general elections of 1883 and 1888. In March, 1892, during the period of financial depression, Mr. Buckland found it necessary to rearrange his financial af-fairs, whereupon his seat was declared vac-ant, his successor being the late Sir James Dickson. Mr. Buckland was for a time a member of the old traffic board, and was chairman of the Toombul Shire Council

before it was split up on the constitution of the Hamilton Division, now the town of Hamilton. His aged wife survives him. The funeral will move from his late residence, Boyd-road, Nundah, at 3.30 this afternoon for the Nundah Cemetery.
