WOMAN'S WORLD,

DEATH OF MRS. ROBERT PORTER.

A very wide circle of friends will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Robert Porter, of Corio, Kangaroo Point, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. T. Shackel, where she was staying for a few days. Mrs. Porter was the relict of the late Mr. Robert Porter, a well-known man in Bris- bane, and who pre-deceased her by seven years. Mr. and Mrs. Porter came to Bris-

bane in 1860, and settled at Kangaroo Point in the house which the family now occupy. Mrs. Porter, though in her 86th year when she died, enjoyed marvellously good health until about last November, and she was proud of being able to say that no doctor had attended her for over thirty years. She was skilled with her needle, and an unfinished piece of beautiful em-broidery was laid aside only a few days before her death. She had a wonderful memory, and was alert and active until the last few weeks. She had two sons and six daughters, one of whom, the late Miss Alice Porter, head mistress of the Leichhardt-street Infants' School, passed away a few years ago. The other members of the family include Mr. Fred Porter (H.M. Customs), Mr. W. Porter (bank manager, Laidley), Mrs. T. Schackel, Miss Porter (head mistress Girls' and Infants' School, South Brisbane), and Misses M., K., and Mary Porter. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. T. Shackel, Thorn-street, Kangaroo Point. The service was conducted by the Rev. G. Ewan, of the Mowbraytown Presbyterian Church.
