SHIRE BOUNDARIES.

AMALGAMATION AT CROYDON,

NEW SHIRE AT CHILLAGOE.

An Order-in-Council has been issued, uniting the present areas of the town of Croydon and the Shire of Croydon into one area under the name of the Shire of Croydon. The new shire will be divided into four divisions, and the council will be composed of nine members, three of whom will be assigned to Division 1 (the present town of Croydon), and two each to Divisions 2. 3, and 4, which were formerly Divisions 1, 2, and 3 of the Shire of Croydon. Nomination day has been fixed for January 21, at Croydon, and John Gardiner is to be returning

officer.

An Order-in-Council has also been issued altering the boundaries of the Shires of Walsh and Woothakata, by including in the Shire of Walsh a small portion of the Shire of Woothakata. The Shire of Walsh as altered will then be divided into two areas, by constituting a new shire under the name of the Shire of Chillagoe. The council of the new shire will consist of five members, and tile first election will be held at Chillagoe, on January 16. J.H. Brownley being the returning officer. In consequence of this alteration all the members of the Shire of Walsh will go out of office, and an election for new members will be held on January 18, W. K. Donnelly being appointed to conduct it.

The Shire of Rawbelle is also to be divided into three divisions instead of two divisions, as heretofore, by dividing the present Division 2 into two portions. The number of members will be increased from 6 to 8; three members each will be assigned to Divisions 1 and 2, and the remaining two members to Division 3. The election of members for Divisions 2 and 3 will be held on January 29. William D. Malthy, being appointed returning-officer.

Messrs. Clark and Faustet have forwarded a handy wall calendar for 1909, each sheet including the days of the month, and dates boldly printed.

On Boxing Day, the steamer Konoo «warra, which has been chartered by the Queensland Railway Institute, will make a trip to Cape Moreton. The excursion is open to the general public, and the prices are advertised. Luncheon und re freshments will be procurable on board, and the Railway Brass Band will add to the enjoyment of the outing.
