DEATH OF MISS ALICE PORTER.

By the sad death of Miss Alice Porter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Porter, of Corio, Kangaroo Point, a gap has been left in the ranks of the teaching profession of this city, and in a hitherto unbroken family circle. Miss Porter was head mistress of the Leichhardt-street Infants' School for many years, and by her excellent work in that capacity, as well as by her kindly, unostentatious charity, she has left a memorial of which her be-reaved relatives may justly be proud. Unfor-tunately Miss Porter was a sad sufferer during the past two years, and an operation was deemed necessary by her medical adviser, but complica-tions ensued and she passed away early on Wed-nesday morning at her father's residence. The Leichhardt-street schools were closed on the day of the funeral, an immense number of floral tokens were sent, and many sympathisers paid the last tribute of respect to one whose memory will live long in the hearts of a large circle of friends.
