PERMITS TO PLAYERS.

í The permit and umpire committee of the Victorian

Football League met yesterday evening. Mr. Charles Ilraunloir (Geelong) was, re-elected chairman, -,, v A letter

was received from J. Elder resigning his position as umpire after 10 steam' service. It was decided to ask him to attend the next meeting of the league, when it is proposed to recognise his services to the game in a tangible

"1. Drummond, the Collingwood captain, applied for a permit to transfer to Williamstown, producing a clearance from the Collingwood club. In this the reason for granting the clearance was he has been appointed coach to the VII. Bankstown club." 'The committee, following a decision made last year. decided that this was not a different reason, and referred the matter back to the Collingwood club.

M. J. Abernethy, the champion centre player of the public schools last year, applied for permission to play South Melbourne. He lives at Shepparton, and has been a boiler at Wesley College for some years. In answer, to questions, he said that he had been living in St. Kilda territory- since the beginning of February, St. Kilda claimed that under the district residential scheme he was eligible only to play for St. Kilda. On behalf of the Melbourne club It was stated that as a student Abernethy's residence was that of his parents, and that an he is still a student, though not lit Wesley College, he must be regarded as a benificent of Shepparton, and therefore an far as the league was. concerned came from unallotted territory. The committee accepted this levi, and Abernethy will play; with Melbourne. j:
