Wormley House Prize Distri-

bution.

(from a Correspondent.)

The distribution of prizes in connection with the Wormley House Grammar School took place on Thursday afternoon last. The walls of the spacious schoolroom were literally covered with specimens of the handiwork of the boys, in the shape of maps and drawings.

J. N. Brunker, Esq., took the chair, and handed the prizes to the successful com-petitors. After alluding in complimentary terms to Mr. Hack, and speaking in com-mendation of his method of imparting in-struction, he called, upon him to give his

report.

Mr. Hack then referred to the work done in the school during the half year ; in numbers the scholars had increased, and the progress made by many of the boys was both marked and encouraging. He alluded to the reports that had been circulated about the school,

particularly the one representing it as his

intention to close the school at the end of

this year. He could not tell, owing to the premises being under sale, how he should be situated as far as the house itself was con-cerned, but he had no intention whatever of giving up the school, ' and he took this opportunity of publicly contradicting the report. Mr. Brown had become the purchaser of Wormley House, and the school would be carried on m the same building as before. It was his intention to secure if possible an able assistant master during the Christmas vacation ; and he trusted that on' the reassem-bling of the school, which would take place on the 20th of January, that both masters and scholars would meet in good health and spirits, prepared to accomplish great thingö during the year 1879. Words of counsel were then addressed to those lads who were

finally leaving school, and about to enter into the arena of the world, and in concluding Mr. Hack specially referred to one of these boys,'Master Ernest G. Yeomans, speaking in high praise of his manly character; his orderly conduct during his'"residence as a boarder at Wormley House ; and his untiring industry. Several recitations were delivered by the boys, the best being those of

Master E. G. Yeomans and Master James

Wolfe.

Previous to the distribution of prizes Mr. Hack mentioned the names of some of the the lads who, from different causes, were pre-vented from obtaining rewards; Masters Herbert Wolfe and Benjamin Lee throughsickness, which prevented their attending school for some weeks, and Masters Moffitt and Brasen, through having only recently joined' the school. Mr. Brunker then handed

the prizes to the boys.
