D ANK'S original charm school '.*' -for grooming "beautiful girls" into "great stars"-closed two years ago after running two years. '

What has happened to the girl» who went through it?

Out of on,e group, only one is

now under contract to the Rank Organisation: blonde Susan Shaw.

She is 21 and the wife of actor Albert Lieven.

Many of the girls have quit films entirely. Claire Boom made only one picture. She is now back on the stage.

Josephine Stuart says frankly: "I'm completely out of work." Sandra Dome, 24, was paid £ 10 a week, rising to £15 after six months at'-the charm school. She is now in a London pantomime.

Carol Marsh, 20, made five films. Her contract ended a year ago. Since then she has done a little stage and television work.

Diana Dors became a Rank pro-tegee at 15. Since leaving his com-pany she has made one freelance film.

For Rank, the closing of his charm school. was a bitter disap-pointment. He had hoped to make stars on the mass-production sys-tem, but it did not work.
