Councils Get Awards

For Progress

Mudgee Municipal Coun-cil and Gundagai Shire Council won the A R Bluett Memorial awards for the most progressive coun-cils in New South Wales

during 1953, the Memorial Trust announced yesterday

They were chosen by the trustees of the fund

Mudgee Municipal Council gained the award for 1953 because of its Olympic swim ming pool, road improve ments, water supply and con. servation work, library exten-sions and street and park bcautification

Gundagai Shire Council carried out electricity and water supply extensions, lib-« rary improvements, developed its parks and gardens, and

took active measures in bushv fire prevention

The award is a brona raised letter plaque which is displayed in the chambers of the winning council
