His department had demands for 20,000 men for war and other essen-tial Industries and those needs were of & higher priority than work for

political parties.

Last night the Democratic Party spokesman said that clerical workers i who were available at week-ends I would not be suitable for specialised

election work which entailed employI ment for seven days a week while the

The secretary of the party, Mr. Munro, yesterday said that it waa expected on Friday that Mr. McFadyen would nominate.

The contest in Lachlan will now be between the retiring Official Labour member Mr. Chanter, and Mr. J. L, Silgar, independent Labour.

Mr. Munro pointed out yesterday that in the Oxley electorate his party had not endorsed the candidature of Messrs. L. C. Jordan, 8. M. Martin, and C. A. Ryan as Country Party candidate* because the sitting member, Major Mitchell. Was a serving mem-ber of the military forces.
