MASTER IN EQUITY.

Mr. J. R. Hooton Likely to

be Appointed.

It is expected that the Master in Equity, Mr. W, A. Parker, who retires from that position on July 20. will be succeeded by Mr, J. R. Hooton, barrister.

Mr Hooton, it is understood, will also be appointed Master in Lunacy, the combined positions carrying a salary of £1,600 a year.

Under recent State legislation the occupant of these positions is entitled to a pension on the same scale as a District Court Judge.

Mr. Hooton graduated with first-class hon-ours In German and French at the Sydney University in 1010 and went to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. There he obtained tho degree of Bachelor of Civil Law. Mr. Hooton was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in November, 1913, and later was appointed lecturer In Equity at the Sydney Law School. Ho specialised in equity, in which he has built up an extensive practice.

SUPREME COURT VACANCY.

The State Government will soon appelai a successor to Mr. Justice Boyce, whoso death has created a vacancy in the divorce juris-diction of the Supreme Court. The appoint-ment will probably be made before the present law vacation ends on July 10.
