STAGE AND FILM JOBS.

Two Players.

TWO of the busiest people In Sydney

are Miss Charmaine Ross and Mr. Guy Hastings, both of whom are mem-bers of Miss Pay Compton's English company at present in Sydney.

Mr. Hastings plays John Brown in "Victoria Regina," and Miss Ross is the assistant stage manager and an understudy.

Both these players have been selected to appear In the current New Era film, "Show Business," now in production at National Studios at Pagewood.

The usual orders are to report on the set at 8 ajn. in full make-up. This means getting to the studio by 7 am. at the latest.

Rehearsals and "shots" take all day, and then the players have to dash to the city, have a quick dinner and bath, and be at the theatre by 7 p.m.

Miss Ross has to change her mood twice a day, for she is very serious-minded in her-self. On the "Show Business" set she is playing a vivacious soubrette and appearing in films for the first time.

When the film company arrived in Sydney, the producer, Mr. Richard Harwood, was looking for a soubrette. Two or three were under consideration. when Miss Ross called at the office to greet a friend. The producer saw her and said, "That's the girl for the

nart "
