CELEBRATIONS.

MANLY PAGEANT.

Captain Phillip's Landing.

The Mayor of Manly, Alderman Nolan, last night officially opened the Anni-versary celebrations in that suburb, in the presence of some thousands of people assembled in front of the Town

Hall.

At the conclusion of his speech, illumina-tions at the wharf, along the Esplanade, and the Corso, and on the municipal buildings were turned on.

Alderman Nolan said it was particularly approprlite that Manly should have a pro-minent place in the celebrations, seeing that Captain Phillip landed there 24 hours before he saw Sydney Cove. When the founder of Australia landed at Manly Cove he scarcely could have visualised the change which was to make the spot before him the most popular pleasure resort In the new country.

Mr. Percy Spender, M.P., said that their ancestors laid the foundations of the greatest civilisation In the South Pacific. Australia was destined to play a most important part in world affairs, especially having regard to the changing face of the East. They must do their utmost to be prepared for what the future still held for them as a nation.

PROCESSION TO OVAL.

The landing of Phillip at Manly, from the replica of the Supply, will be re-enacted this afternoon, at 2.15, with all the realism of the performance at Farm Cove on Anniversary Dav, and several of the decorated floats which were In use in the Sydney procession will again be on view.

The procession will proceed to Manly oval, where SOO girls and 600 boys will give a dis-play of physical culture. There will also be a parade of floats around the oval, and diagram marching by bands.

Next Saturday there will be the intcrDominlon surf competitions as part of the celebrations. On March 5, there will be an Interstate carnival arranged by the Royal Life Saving Society. The grand finale will take place In the evening, when there will be a water pageant and fireworks display.

Manly will be decorated and illuminated throughout the celebiations period beginning to-day.

NORTH SYDNEY CARNIVAL.

A carnival and procession will be held at North Sydney to-day, as part of the local celebrations. The procession will start at Crow's Nest at 1.45 p.m., and proceed to the North Sydney Oval, where a sports carnival takes place.

The Governor and Lady Wakehurst will attend a service on the oval to-morrow after-

noon.

ST. DAVID'S DAY.

The celebrations of St. David's Day on March 1 will this year form part of the 150th Anniversary Celebrations. There will be a gathering at Sargent's Cafe in Market Street, organised by the Welsh Society of Sydney. There will be Welsh folk-songs nnd dances and a Welsh play, "St. David's Day" will be presented.

The Sydney Welsh Church is holding a Gymanfa Ganu (Welsh sinslnc festival) on St. David's Sunday, February 27.

AERIAL PAGEANT.

To-day week, at the Kingsford Smith aero-drome. Mascot, there will take place one of the most spectacular aerial pageants ever seen in Australia. Competitors will be pre-sent from New South Wales, Victoria, Queens-land, and South Australia.

The principal event will be the Anniversary aerial derby. This will be followed by an interstate race and then a fly-past of club formations by the New South Wales and in-terstate pilots. Aerobatics in formation of three club Tiger Moths will be one of the attractions.

Among the more unusual events on the pro-gramme will be a parachute jump and an "instructor and pupil" novelty event. The Royal Australian Air Force will also take part and give a display.

MODEL SPEED BOATS.

Australia's 150th Anniversary model speed boat championships will be opened at Ex-hibition Park, Parramatta Road. Ashfield, this afternoon. The fastest model speed boats In the world will compete.

Another feature of the afternoon will be the launching ol a scale model of the P. and

O. Strathnaver.
