FISHING COMPETITION.

MORE WOMEN THAN MEN.

There was a majority of women among the 80 competitors in the fishing competition held on the Hawkesbury River by the Patonga Social Club during the week-end. Another strange feature of the proceedings was that all the winners were residents of the metro-politan area, although quite a number of local fishermen took part.

Mr. Sam Gunnee was awarded the prize for tile highest individual catch, with 214 points. He caught 60 fish. The largest was 61/2lb. The catch included 30 black bream, of an average weight of 3lb. The heaviest flathead was caught by Mr. F. Seymour, whose fish weighed 71/2lb. A special trophy, given for the largest number of blaclkflsh, was awarded to Mr. G. Pentley, who caught 68 fish, of an average weight of 2lb.

With a jewfish weighing 4lb, Miss A. Perry took the prize for the heaviest fish caught by a lady. The number of fish of standard length caught was 400.

The fishing was interrupted on Saturday night while the competitors attended a fancy dress ball. A majority returned to their lines after the ball was over. The fishing com-menced on Saturday afternoon, and finished yesterday afternoon, and was conducted ac-cording to the rules of the Amateur Fishing Association.
