TREES TO CRASH ON

MOUNTAIN.

Thousands Poised.

SPECTACLE FOR FILM.

One hundred thousand tons of timber will crash down a mountainside in a timber "drive" at Craven Plateau, near Gloucester, this week. For weeks about 20 expert axe-men have been preparing the trees, and thous-ands of trees ' have been partly severed, and are ready to fall when the topmost section is dynamited. The spectacle Is to be filmed for the CInesound picture, "Tall Timber."

It was feared yesterday that the high wind would prematurely start the "drive." A few big trees were blown over.

The work has Involved considerable risk. Warning notices have been posted to keep strangers away. Ten cameras will be used to photograph the scene, In which the local people are taking a considerable interest.

Although the timber "drive" is a familiar method of felling many trees together, it has not been attempted before .on such a large

scale.
